I specialise in sustainable transport and decarbonisation, drawing on many years’ experience working on trials and real-world demonstration projects involving a range of transport modes and vehicles.
Marcus Jones , Principal Consultant
Marcus has 25 years’ experience in research and consultancy in sustainable transport and decarbonisation; following postgraduate research into urban air pollution. He has had a particular focus on monitoring and trials of sustainable transport measures and low emission technologies. He has worked on high profile projects for a range of government clients and agencies, including the UK Department of Transport, Transport for London, Highways England, Innovate UK, the EU and the rail industry.
Recent work includes in-fleet trials of hydrogen fuel cell and electric vehicles, HGV platooning, Vehicle to Grid charging; and providing monitoring and evaluation advice for a Future Transport Zone. He is experienced in analysis of fuel, energy consumption and environmental impacts of vehicles and applying cost-benefit analysis / transport appraisal methods to innovative transport technologies. This experience gives him a good understanding of measures for achieving decarbonisation in transport.

- Familiar with transport datasets and environmental impacts for a wide range of modes and vehicle types and technologies
- Monitoring and evaluation of real-world trials of vehicles, infrastructure and road user behaviour
- Analysis of fuel and energy consumption data to quantify the environmental impacts of vehicles
- Applying cost-benefit analysis / transport appraisal methods to innovative transport technologies
- Familiarity with national guidance on pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure
- Communicating technical findings to a range of audiences
- Familiarity with UK transport decarbonisation policy and guidance
