Conwy County Borough Council Climate Emergency Support

8 October 2019

Conwy County Borough Council declared a climate emergency in May 2019 reflecting the council’s focus on climate change as the defining issue of our time and the greatest threat to well-being, globally and locally. The council have committed to a target of Carbon Net Zero by 2030 and Aether are pleased to be working along with CAG Consultants to define the route to achieving that target.

Targets of carbon neutrality in response to declarations of climate emergencies are an emerging concept and therefore are not, at present, well-defined processes or definitions. As such, we will be drawing on the expertise of our teams and innovative modelling to develop the most practical and effective approach for Conwy County Borough Council. This will include developing a High Level Strategic Roadmap, which will outline the issues that need to be considered and will be refined throughout the project; and utilising a carbon scenario modelling tool to enable us to identify potential routes to carbon neutrality. We will work closely with the Council to define and choose the most effective and feasible route for them to reach Carbon Net Zero by 2030.

Aether is pleased to continue its work supporting local authorities with climate emergency declarations and recongises the pivotal role that local organisations hold in infleuncing emissions and the importance of cross government cooperation in achieving Net Zero for the United Kingdom.
