20 January 2021
It is 2021 and the UK has left the EU. At Aether, we are proud to continue to work with many EU bodies, and EU national governments, in the realms of climate and air pollution data and policy.
Our support to EU national GHG and air pollution emissions inventory teams continues. Current projects include working with Estonia, Ireland, Luxembourg, Malta and Romania, on their GHG and AQ emission inventories and wider impacts of climate action.
The start of a new year kicks off a new annual work programme with the European Environment Agency through their European Topic Centres (ETCs). An overview of our recent work can be viewed here. Many of these projects continue this year, with the addition of some new tasks, including analysing how Covid-19 impacted air pollution in cities in 2020, agriculture emissions analysis and Member State support, and remote satellite verification of GHG emissions inventories.
We also continue to work with other European organisations including DG Clima and DG Env of the European Commission, on reviews of EU national GHG and air pollutant emission inventories and projections, and support in preparation for the use of the 2019 Refinement to the 2006 IPCC Guidelines for GHG inventories.
The world faces several urgent environmental challenges and at Aether we believe that we have a better chance of solving these issues through international collaboration and cooperation. We look forward to working with our EU and international partners on these matters in 2021.
